| Painting is simply my hobby, my
favorite hobby actually. I am self-taught and have painted since 1995. I work exclusively in oil.
I am perhaps a bit single-tracked regarding the art I like myself. I prefer art where I can see what it is, i.e. art within the genre realism. I do not like such art where it is up to me as a beholder to interpret. Some critics have said "what you do is trying to copy photos, one can just as well magnify the photo and put it on the wall instead". Well, they are right. I will probably never reach that far, but if the painting in the end looks almost the same as the photo, then, in my eyes, I have succeeded. That is the challenge for me. |

| Cathy is an award-winning artist who now lives in Georgia after a 2 year stay in San Diego, CA. Her paintings are primarily still lifes in watercolors and acrylic. "I look for things around the house that would make good subjects to paint and since I've been a vegetarian for most of my life there is usually an abundance of fruits and vegetables Cathy’s paintings are studies in value similar to the old masters. She uses
very dark pigments while at the same time keeping some of the white paper shining through to give her works a very luminous quality. You will sometimes find her dogs painted in her large acrylic works giving the paintings a humorous quality. The titles also add humor to otherwise serious still life subjects. "I can't take myself too seriously and I find myself playing with words while I paint. My father always made up silly rhymes and funny stories that played on words and I must have
inherited some of his humor." Recently she has gained national recognition for her work. She has won numerous awards and has been accepted in many national juried exhibits. Her work is in many private and corporate collections. |
