Marvin Mozlin: Wildlife Artist and Carver
Marv is a life-long native of
Pennsylvania where his boyhood years of fishing and observing wildlife
influenced his development as an artist. He began carving about twenty
eight
years ago, and after attending his first show, it was love at first sight
which has now become an obsession.
Marv majored in art throughout his school years,
receiving various awards for his work which culminated in his receiving a
scholarship to the Philadelphia Museum School of Art. However, it was
not until years later, after going into business and raising a family, that
he was inspired to paint again.
Marv has won awards in major competitions (including
the professional category) on the Atlantic seaboard which include the
following:
Ward Foundation World Championship, Ocean City, Maryland
Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor, New Jersey
Garden State Waterfowl Championship, Red Bank, New Jersey
U. S. Nationals, Long Island, New York
Somerset County Wildlife Show, Basking Ridge, New Jersey
Delaware Wildlife and Art Show, Wilmington, Delaware
Mid - Atlantic Wildlife Show, Abington, Pennsylvania
Marv has had several one-man shows at the following galleries:
Janet Flesicher Gallery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Ark II, Flemington, New Jersey
Ron Kolbis Wildlife Art Gallery, Erwinna, Pennsylvania
Waterfowl Gallery, Peddler's Village, Lahaska, Pennsylvania
His work has also been shown at the following locations:
Academy of Natural Sciences, Wildlife Exposition in Philadelphia
Honey Hollow Audubon Society, New Hope, Pennsylvania
Brandywine Decoy and Wildlife Exhibit, Brandywine, Pennsylvania and Wilmington,
Delaware
His carvings are included in private collections across the United States and
England.
Marv's special love is to carve and paint hens and upland game birds giving
them a natural feeling and attitude with warm earth tone colors. Most of
his birds are carved from a solid block of wood. Marv is an avid hunter
and his carvings capture the birds as he sees them in their natural environment
expressing the proudness and singular individuality of the species.
Hand
carved birds that Marv has crafted include upland game birds, birds of prey,
water foul, decorative decoys, and owls. Realistic and lifelike wood carving.
Nature as art and art reflecting nature.
