If one could assemble a complete collection of DEBO's works, spanning over a quarter century of excellence, it would be easy to understand why DEBO has become an artist of international reputation with paintings displayed in some of the world's most prestigious museums and private collections.

DEBO's self-taught style, hauntingly reminiscent of Rembrandt, has been perfected over years spent capturing the spirit and essence of the time on canvas as seen through the faces of his subjects.

DEBO's extensive wine collection brought him naturally to the creation of the The Vintners Collection, a highly-acclaimed series of twenty-five portraits comprising this country's finest winemakers such as Robert Mondavi, Louis Martini, Joseph Heitz and Tom Jordan.

Once again expanding and exploring along with his art, DEBO is currently marrying his philosophical nature with his portrait studies in his Prophet Series and breaking new ground with his exquisite still lifes in between commissioned oil portraits of uncanny realism and beauty. A new quarter- century of excellence in art begins...

Gail Neuls

I find inspiration in character rich images like old old buildings that are either falling apart or dilapidated in some way. Good examples of them are in London England, Spain, Greece, Venice and Portugal where I traveled in the hopes of taking back to Canada photos to enhance with my paint brush, palette knife and the many different mediums we have now. Building texture to look almost three dimensional is a favourite of mine.

Last April when I was in Portugal I noticed how the buildings are all mostly the same pale off-white or creamy colour. Even though I like the architectural structures, I could just visualize colour on them. Surprisingly one day we drove by a new subdivision and it had every building painted in beautiful soft pastels in contrasting colours side by side. It was a sight to behold! I was very moved!

Colour is a huge passion so I love to experiment with it in varying ways using it where other colours appear drab and lifeless. It is my belief that if you tone down colour too much you basically lose it and it's cheerfulness. Buildings, in their old age, develop so much feeling from all their years of hardship - telling a story of their past. The original colours change and blend together. I love working with that.

I start painting with an image and then the process and my impression happens as I paint. That's when my inner self is revealed.

My style of painting changes rapidly as there is a big world to discover. I like to keep moving on to new depths of creativity.
